Nyla Pipes and Dow Decorating Partner on Fundraiser for St. Lucie Habitat

St. Lucie County, FL (June 4, 2019) – Local artist, and Executive Director of One Florida Foundation, Nyla Pipes, partners with David and Kathy Dow of Dow Decorating to raise money to build a home for a local St. Lucie County family.

David and Kathy Dow are experts at refurbishing furniture and beautifying homes. Nyla Pipes is an expert painter with a whimsical flair for capturing Florida nature. When you combine the expertise of these three talented artists, one-of-a-kind showpieces are the result.

Their creativity doesn’t stop there.

David found two wooden chairs needing a makeover at the Port St. Lucie ReStore and went to work on them. First, David cleaned the carved wood, and then refinished it a darker color, while Kathy chose a beautiful complementary fabric for reupholstering. Nyla got to work creating a design, and then hand painting it onto the fabric. Once finished, David reupholstered the chairs.

These one-of-a-kind pieces can be yours with the purchase of a $5.00 raffle ticket. You can buy your tickets at three locations: Dow Decorating at 1489 St. Lucie West Boulevard, PSL; Port St. Lucie ReStore at 10185 South US 1, PSL; or Fort Pierce ReStore at 2904 Okeechobee Road, Fort Pierce. Stop in at any of these three locations to purchase your winning ticket. For more information, call David or Kathy Dow at 772-678-1040.

All proceeds from the raffle ticket sales go to building a Habitat home for the Moise family in Port St. Lucie. The winning ticket will be drawn at 12:00 pm, July 9, 2019 at the Moise family home dedication; 1573 SE Faculty Court. You need not be present to win.

About Nyla Pipes:

Nyla Pipes painted her first painting at age 9 for her 4th grade teacher. Growing up in very rural NE Washington state, arts and crafts were what people did to while away the long winters. By the time she reached high school, Nyla painted and sewed on a regular basis, and dabbled in many other mediums. She was especially inspired by nature, and her early subject matter included a lot of flowers and landscapes.

Through her teen years she continued to develop her skill with the guidance of a fantastic high school art teacher. In her 20’s, Nyla majored in Electronic Media, Theatre, and Film at Eastern Washington University, and while there, she took a number of drawing and painting classes. Nyla then went on to work in radio and television news in Spokane, WA. During this time, Nyla painted as a hobby, often gifting her work to others.
In 2010, Nyla moved to the state of Florida and dedicated her life to improving Florida’s waters, including the Florida Everglades and our oceans. As the Executive Director of One Florida Foundation, a completely volunteer nonprofit, she spends much of her time in Tallahassee and Washington D.C. advocating for solutions to our water issues.

Having developed a deep love for the state of Florida and spurred by a need to share the beauty of this beautiful state and our oceans, Nyla once again picked up her paint brush. As they say, the rest is history, and Nyla will continue capturing Florida, the birds, plants, and animals, as she sees them. Her work tends to be colorful and whimsical, with a surprising amount of detail.

Nyla, her husband, and two children reside along the Treasure Coast of Florida.
