Shawonda and Kyle met 8 years ago while Kyle lived in Idaho and Shawonda lived in Florida. After a year of being the best of friends, they fell in love and began their journey together in a loving and long-lasting relationship. Life was really challenging for Shawonda as a single mom to Jaida, and through it all, she focused on building a life for herself and Jaida. When Kayden was born, Shawonda and Kyle decided it was time to unite their family, so Kyle moved to Florida.
As a young child, Shawonda helped build her aunt’s Habitat home, so Habitat was something that she already had a positive experience with. Even though they both worked, it was difficult finding a safe and affordable place to live. Currently, the kids can’t play outside, or even near the windows inside the apartment. It’s scary, unsafe, and Shawonda and Kyle constantly worry for their kids’ safety. They came to Habitat with the hope of a better life. A place with no more gun shots, no more crying and having to comfort their frightened children. They are proud of this house at 7508 Coquina Avenue that they have worked so hard for, and we are excited that they are a part of the Habitat family.
We would like to thank St. Lucie Habitat, St. Lucie County, and everyone who has shown us support throughout this journey. We are forever grateful! The Wilson and Stubbs family
