"My name is Shumeika; I am the proud mother of 5 year old Iyana and 4 year old Imyah. I am a mother, site maintenance worker, and part time student. I love what I do, it can be hard, but I have to tell myself if I want better than I have, I have to do better. I am very thankful to have 2 healthy daughters in my life that I love dearly. Also, I am thankful to have my Aunt Bessie Townsend in my life and my girls’ life. She is an amazing Aunt and I just thank her for everything that she does for me and my girls.
I was born and raised in Fort Pierce, attending St. Lucie County Public Schools, graduating from Centennial High School in 2001. As a child I remember my mom drilling in my head for me to go to school to get my education so that I could get a good paying job and not have to go through what she went through to raise us. I always dreamed of owning my own home, but I also thought to myself that because I wasn’t rich, my family didn’t have money, and I wasn’t playing the Lotto then I would never be able to own my own home. Going to church and remember my pastor saying that we have not because we ask not. Then I began to pray and ask God to bless me and my girls with our own home. Continuing to speak it into existence, one day we were riding and my oldest daughter (Iyana) saw a big house and said to me “Mom we should get a house like that”. I then told her that I’m trying and that’s when I knew my God had heard my cry.
The dream of owning a home seems unreal because of the steps you have to go through to get it, but thanks to my Lord and Savior, St. Lucie Habitat, and all the wonderful people that took the time out of their busy schedule to volunteer we now have a place that we can call home. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!"
