Meet the Blackmon’s: Chris is a Sergeant with the Army National Guard and both he and Latasha work at the Walmart Distribution Center. They have 3 children, Christopher Jr. 9; Ivan 8; and London, who is 1 month old.
Chris and Latasha are hard-working, devoted parents who struggle every day to make enough money to just get by. They have numerous student loans and medical bills keeping them from getting ahead, and every time they manage to take a step forward, they end up taking two steps backward. The Blackmon’s live in a two bedroom, crowded home in an unsafe Fort Pierce neighborhood where the sound of gunshots is far too common an occurrence. Recently, the Blackmon home was broken into, leaving the family feeling even more vulnerable in their own home. Unable to afford moving expenses, and with nowhere to go, the Blackmon’s live with the daily fear that comes with raising a family in an unsafe neighborhood. In addition, with the dilapidated condition of their home, with its leaking roof, uneven flooring, door-less bedrooms, and frequent rodent, bee, ant and spider infestations, the Blackmon family dreams of a new home as an answer to their prayers.
The Dream Home is the chosen name for a week-long Home Builders Blitz, and is an incredible collaboration between Treasure Coast Builders Association local home builders Bob Cenk of Homecrete Homes Inc. and Ronnie Kirchman of Kirchman Construction, and St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity. We need your help! Help us build the Dream Home for Chris, Latasha, Christopher Jr., Ivan, and London by donating building supplies and services to this wonderful project! Call to get involved.
